The procedure of determining the value of a security through examination of numerical and measurable characteristics such as revenues, earnings, margins and market share.

QUARTERLY REPORT
|
An unaudited document required by the regulators for all public companies, reporting the financial results for the quarter, and noting any significant changes or events in the quarter.

QUEBEC PENSION PLAN (QPP)
|
A contributory, earnings-related social insurance program which ensures a certain measure of income protection to those contributing to the plan, as well as their families, against the loss of income due to retirement, disability or death. This plan operates only in Quebec. However, the Canada Pension Plan is the comparable program in effect throughout the rest of Canada.

QUICK ASSETS
|
All assets that can or will be turned into cash in the near future. Examples of these are cash accounts receivable and marketable securities. An alternative measurement for quick assets is current assets minus inventory.

QUICK RATIO
|
A liquidity measure for a company, which is used to evaluate its creditworthiness. It equals quick assets divided by current liabilities. It may also be called the acid-test ratio.

QUOTATION OR QUOTE
|
The highest bid to purchase, and the lowest offer to sell, a security at a given point in time. For example: A quote of 20.40 - 20.50 means that 20.40 is the highest price a buyer will pay and 20.50 the lowest price a seller will accept at that specific point in time.
